The Women's Center
Non-Profit & Civic Organizations
The Women's Center is committed to be a non-judgmental, confidential, and free pregnancy outreach model, rooted in compassion and hope. All our services are free of charge and we do not discriminate in who we serve based on any race, color, national origin, religion, sex, age or disability.
Despite the number of teen pregnancies, and even the number of abortions that have gone down in the recent past, we still see a set of challenges to those who:
-find themselves with an unplanned pregnancy and are confused, scared, and feeling under pressure
-are parenting with stressful situations
-are at risk emotionally, physically, intellectually, socially, and spiritually when sexually active
-find themselves in unhealthy relationships and often living in isolation
-struggle with a past abortion decision
How does The Women's Center serve these needs?
1. Options Counseling-
We offer any woman or couple facing a pregnancy decision the opportunity to discuss their situation and share the challenges they face, in a confidential and compassionate setting. An initial pregnancy test can be provided free of charge. If positive, we offer access to a limited ultrasound to confirm that there is a viable pregnancy and determine the gestational age. We offer information on any of the options of parenting, adoption or abortion. The information is medically-sourced and presented in a non-directive, non-coercive manner so that the client has had opportunity to gain the knowledge and make a well-informed decision. No information will be shared without the approval of the client. If a pregnancy test is negative, we offer information on healthy relationship classes and parenting classes if they are already parenting.
2. Pregnancy Support-
We offer numerous 1:1 educational classes on well-pregnancy, fetal development and preparing for child birth. For needs that we are unable to meet, referrals to community resources such as an Ob/Gyn or other resources that will support a client with financial, housing and other unmet needs. We have a volunteer registered lactation consultant, birth doula and childbirth educator to address these needs with clients. We have maternity clothes and baby clothes/equipment in our resource room. Educational classes earn points towards new items or gift cards.
3. Parenting Support-
Parenting education is provided 1:1 for anyone who would like support in parenting children from birth to age 12. Referrals to community sources that can supplement our classes are always considered and offered when applicable. Educational classes earn points towards new items or gift cards.
4. Sexual Risk Avoidance-
We provide information in our center, as well as to health classes and community events, with medically-sourced information on sexual risks for the whole person. The information is presented to equip with knowledge so that one can make a well-informed decision about sexual activity. Healthy non-sexual relationship-building education is provided and encouraged for those not ready to be engaged in sexual relationships.
5. Healthy Relationship Education-
We understand that many of the challenges facing women, children and families are rooted in unhealthy relationships. These lead to potential: domestic abuse, child abuse, sex trafficking, substance abuse, etc. We will help any client with setting boundaries, recognizing unhealthy signs in relationships, communication skills, etc. that will lead to stronger families and homes.
6. Post Abortion Recovery and Support-
We understand that some women do not experience any post abortion stress or trauma. However, there are in fact women who suffer from their decision to have an abortion and even who have miscarried that we offer support to. There are ample studies that indicate women regret their abortion decision and experience grief and guilt. We are here to simply offer support to those who do.
