    Position Overview
    The Principal serves as the instructional leader and operational head of the school, responsible for cultivating a student-centered culture, advancing academic excellence, and ensuring a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment for all. This position includes full supervisory responsibilities, oversight of curriculum and instruction, and stewardship of school climate and community engagement.

    Addison Northwest School District (ANWSD) is a PreK–12 public school system serving the five Addison County communities of Addison, Ferrisburgh, Panton, Vergennes, and Waltham. The district includes Vergennes Union Elementary School, Ferrisburgh Central School, Vergennes Union Middle School, and Vergennes Union High School, and serves approximately 830 learners across the district. Vergennes Union Elementary School is situated in the City of Vergennes, a small and welcoming community in northwestern Vermont.

    ANWSD is conveniently located between Burlington and Middlebury and along the Lake Champlain corridor, offering access to outdoor recreation and the cultural amenities of both communities. Vergennes itself is known for its small-town character, nearby natural beauty, and close proximity to hiking, biking, boating, and other year-round outdoor activities. This setting offers the advantages of rural Vermont living while remaining within reasonable driving distance of larger regional hubs.

    Inspire and sustain a shared vision of learning aligned with the Professional Standards for Educational Leaders, including:

    • Lead the implementation of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and restorative practices to foster a respectful, proactive school climate
    • Champion student-centered, standards-based instruction and personalized learning
    • Ensure high-quality professional growth aligned with school goals and continuous improvement plans
    • Promote strong family and community partnerships to enhance student success
    • Manage all operational, staffing, safety, and fiscal aspects of the school
    At least 5 year(s) of relevant experience preferred.
    Master degree preferred.
