Counselor-in-Training (CIT) – Camp Kookamunga
Posted: 06/16/2026The Counselor-in-Training (CIT) position at Camp Kookamunga, operated by the Middlebury Parks & Recreation Department, is designed to provide youth with an introduction to leadership and responsibility within a structured summer camp environment. CITs assist camp counselors and program staff with daily activities, shadow the supervision of campers, and support the safe and successful operation of camp programs while learning valuable leadership, teamwork, and communication skills.
Responsibilities may include:- Assisting counselors and staff with daily camp activities and programs
- Shadowing the supervision of campers during games, activities, and field trips
- Assisting with the setup and cleanup of activities, equipment, and program areas
- Serving as a positive role model for younger campers
- Following the direction and guidance of camp counselors and program staff
- Helping maintain a safe, inclusive, and respectful camp environment
- Supporting staff in keeping campers engaged and participating in camp activities
CITs are expected to demonstrate reliability, enthusiasm, teamwork, and a willingness to learn while contributing to a safe and positive camp experience for all participants. This is an unpaid position for age 14, preparing the CIT’s for the consideration of employment at the age of 15 as a counselor.
