Catering Support Supervisor
Posted: 12/07/2025This hybrid catering position actively participates in both front of house and back of house roles supporting all planning, production, and execution as an essential and productive liaison within the team. This position requires flexibility to support the team in many ways and allows for involvement in all aspects of the catering department.
This is a full-time, benefits eligible, hourly position with a hiring range of $21.27 - $26.60 per hour.
Shift differential is available for eligible shifts and can amount to a higher wage per hour.- Weekend differential: An additional $1.00/hour
- Evening differential: An additional $1.50/hour
- Coordinate and oversee catered events from the beginning planning stages through to the execution, managing time and resources responsibly and independently.
- Communicate professionally and consistently with customers, team members, and chefs while maintaining department policies and guidelines.
- Collaborate with chefs and cooks to follow recipes, timelines, and catering invoice/event plan while being able to adapt quickly as changes arise.
- Ensure the highest standard in sanitary kitchen procedures, food preparation, and food storage according to Servesafe standards. Must maintain the certified food protection manager course provided by Servesafe.
- Develop and maintain proficiency with all software systems utilized in the department which include Catertrax, 25Live, Excel, Word, and NetMenu.
- Contribute to continuous improvements and evolution of the team and perform other duties as assigned to assist the department in obtaining and maintaining its mission.
- Support catering delivery by maintaining a Middlebury College drivers license.
- Uphold Vermont law with regard to service and management of alcohol at all times, while maintaining Department of Liquor Control licensure.
- Ability to work collaboratively with customers and coworkers while keeping the organization's best interests at the forefront, adapting and improvising as needed.
- Possess strong leadership and supervisory skills to cultivate a positive work environment within the team and beyond, participating fully in team meetings and opportunities for growth.
- Computer proficiency and basic understanding of Excel, Outlook, Word and menu management software.
- Hold the management level certification of the Servesafe program or successfully pass the exam within 3 months of hire. Must maintain certification throughout employment.
- Maintain Middlebury College Drivers license and be comfortable loading/unloading and traveling in a box truck, van, or buggy around campus, Breadloaf, or Snowbowl to execute events. Must be trained and licensed to drive Middlebury College Vehicles within 90 days of hire.
- Gain and maintain Vermont Department of Liquor Control (DLC) certification by taking the full course online or in-person provided by the state of Vermont DLC. Must uphold Vermont law at all times.
- Flexibility based on the timing of events is essential – nights, weekends and overtime can be expected.
- 3-5 years experience in food services or catering and administrative work preferred.
- Must be able to stand for up to 4 - 6 hours continuously, as well as frequent bending and overhead reaching with twisting motions. Must be able to lift 20 - 40 pounds numerous times during the day and up to 50 pounds several times each day. Must be able to push and pull up to 150 pounds frequently. Repetitive use of hands for grasping, pushing, pulling, and fine manipulation is required. Standing for long periods of time.
- Will require a flexible schedule, typically Tuesday through Saturday based on operational needs. Overtime and longer work days of 10 – 12 hours may be required.
