• Special Education Coordinator

    The Mount Abraham Unified School District (MAUSD) is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Special Education Coordinator to join our educational team beginning August 2025. Under the supervision of the Director of Student Support Services, the Special Education Coordinator provides leadership, oversight, and guidance of special education services for students in grades PK-12. This role functions as the LEA representative in assigned schools, supporting communication, coordination, planning, and implementation to ensure that students with disabilities have equal access to general education curricula and individualized programs. The ideal candidate will collaborate with district administration and staff to support high-quality instruction, evidence-based interventions, data-driven decision-making, and compliance with state and federal regulations.

    Primary Responsibilities (Essential Functions)

    • Serve as the LEA representative on Individualized Education Program (IEP) teams.
    • Ensure all LEA decisions are documented in accordance with Vermont AOE Special Education Regulations and best practices.
    • Monitor compliance with state and federal special education laws.
    Professional Responsibilities
    • Collaborate with district leadership teams to carry out the District Strategic Plan.
    • Analyze district assessment data to monitor progress and inform instructional decisions.
    • Support implementation of evidence-based practices, including specially designed instruction, universal design for learning, and differentiated instruction.
    • Assist in managing special education resources, including staff, supplies, and services.
    • Participate in interagency planning and follow-up as needed.
    • Review state and district reports in collaboration with the Director of Student Support Services.
    Professional Development
    • Support instructional teams in identifying and implementing best practices for special education.
    • Mentor new special educators to ensure their success.
    • Plan and facilitate professional development activities, including "side-by-side" coaching on special education procedures, progress monitoring, and instructional strategies.

    Working Conditions
    • Building-based office, travel to schools to work with students and staff

    Salary is commensurate with experience and per the Mount Abraham Education Association Collective Bargaining Agreement.

    Job Requirements
    • Master’s degree in Special Education or a related field.
    • Valid Vermont educator license with Special Education Consulting Teacher endorsement.
    • Minimum of 3 years of experience in special education.
    • Strong knowledge of special education laws, policies, and instructional best practices.
    • Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
    • Ability to analyze and use data to drive decision-making and program improvement.
    • At least 2 year(s) of relevant experience preferred.
    • Master degree preferred.
    • Citizenship, residency or work visa required
