Student Program Instructor; Potential Leadership Role
Posted: 06/06/2025Vermont Literacy Network (VLN) is seeking a flexible, creative Student Program Instructor to join our growing team. This role is perfect for an educator who wants to stay deeply connected to students and literacy work outside of a traditional classroom setting.
You'll play a key role in developing and facilitating in-person literacy-based programs for children of all ages (e.g., infants through high schoolers) both at our Bristol location and at community-based sites primarily in Addison County. This position includes leading camps, classes, workshops, and events.
This role is designed to grow with you and VLN. As VLN continues to expand, we are hopeful that the Student Program Instructor position will evolve into the role of Director of Student Programming for the right candidate. We're looking for someone eager to grow alongside our organization, take initiative, and co-create meaningful, inclusive literacy experiences for children and families.
Role & Responsibilities:
- Collaborate in the development and facilitation of student programs, while assisting in preparation and organization, and teaching aspects of the role.
- Foster a positive, inclusive environment that supports literacy development and accommodates diverse learning needs.
- Communicate positively and professionally with VLN team and administration, families, students, and community partners.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development relevant to your role and VLN’s mission.
- Assist with outreach, promotion, and community engagement efforts related to student programming.
- Remain flexible and open to evolving responsibilities as student programming grows, and contribute ideas and feedback as a thought partner in the development of new initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Required: A minimum of a bachelor's degree in education or a related field
- Required: Vermont teaching license (e.g., early childhood, elementary, literacy specialist)
- Preferred: Degree, background, or certifications in literacy, reading instruction, or early childhood education. Training in Structured Literacy and/or the Science of Reading approach is strongly preferred
- Experience working in educational settings such as classrooms, afterschool programs, camps, enrichment programs, etc. Ability to adapt instruction to meet the diverse needs of participants.
- Experience creating and implementing educational programs (e.g., workshops, classes, clubs). We are open to supporting strong candidates who are new to this area and eager to learn.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with VLN administration, program participants, and community partners. Willingness to collaborate in the development of programs, receive and apply feedback, and actively contribute to promoting programs and building community relationships.
- Willing to travel locally to lead programs in community-based settings primarily in Addison County, VT.
