MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:- Oversees the supervision of students engaged in center-sponsored recreational activities on and off center.
- Provides supervision, training, and assessment for assigned recreation staff.
- Plans, implements and evaluates all recreational programs and makes recommendations for change.
- Prepares schedules and calendars for all recreational activities. Coordinates student field trips.
- Creates a supportive work environment; recognizes staff accomplishments and proactively addresses staff performance goals.
- Tracks and records program attendance.
- Orders and maintains recreational equipment, supplies and materials.
- Prepares and controls the departmental budget.
- Designs, develops and implements an active system of communicating upcoming recreation events to students, staff and the community.
- Implements an active system for obtaining student feedback and statements of interest.
- Promotes student and staff participation and interest in recreation activities.
- Recognizes and reinforces students’ positive behavior.
- Plans, organizes and controls the use of overtime and on-call staff to insure compliance with Center and ETR policy and procedures.
- Models appropriate behaviors, mentors students and monitors both positive and negative behaviors through interventions.
- Demonstrated hands-on management style and organization skills
- Proven ability to plan, implement, monitor and evaluate recreation programs
- Proven ability to build partnerships and secure resources that benefit program objective
- Excellent leadership and coaching skills; excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Extensive knowledge of operational practices and principles of recreation/avocation programs
- Proficient in rules and regulations of common sports and games
- Knowledge of fitness, nutrition, and healthy lifestyle practices
- Proficient in the use of computer software such as MSWord, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, etc.
- Bachelors Degree in Physical Education, Recreation, or a related field. A combination of education and experience may substitute for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis.
- Two years of recreation experience or one year of which was in a supervisory capacity.
- Must possess a valid Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.
- Encouraged to obtain valid commercial Driver’s License Class B with passenger endorsement within three months of hire. Water Safety Certification.
