Mail Center Operations Associate
Posted: 10/12/2025Responsible for promptly and accurately processing and distributing mail and packages for all students, faculty and staff.
This is a full time, benefits eligible, hourly position with a hiring range of $18.81 - $23.04 per year.
Core Responsibilities:- Processes, sorts and distributes incoming mail/packages from all carriers. Forwards packages and mail of former Middlebury College affiliates.
- Picks up and delivers mail/packages from various departments and buildings on a regular schedule, both on and off campus.
- Drive motorized vehicle to deliver mail and packages daily and substitutes for student employees who do not show up for their mail deliveries.
- Provides training and direction to student workers.
- Works cooperatively with others and accepts direction from supervisor and manager. Performs other duties as assigned to assist the department in obtaining and maintaining its mission. Performs all duties in a safe and professional manner and in accordance with established departmental practices and procedures.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Must have valid driver’s license, good driving record and ability to obtain a Middlebury College driver’s license.
- Computer skills required in order to use computer based systems for processing mail and packages,, work order submission, email communications, and time entry. Training provided on specific systems.
- Demonstrates professional communication skills with ability to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to establish and maintain positive working relations with supervisors, fellow workers, students, and the rest of College community and carriers. Ability to develop and follow a schedule and demonstrates excellent time management skills.
- Able to provide excellent customer service at all times to the College’s customers – students, staff, faculty, parents, peers, and outside clients (USPS, UPS, FedEx)
- Ability to function independently, to prioritize tasks appropriately and to work well under pressure.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office helpful.
- Physical abilities include: Frequent, lifting, bending, twisting, kneeling, squatting, walking and stair /ladder climbing required. Ability to perform manual tasks requiring moderate physical strength. Work is performed inside and outdoors in varying weather conditions. Good attendance is very important. Must be available to work flexible shifts and overtime. Ability to work Saturdays and Sundays as part of a regular or rotating work shift. Must be a self-starter with the ability to work independently.
