Please join the Environmental Law Center for the next installment in the virtual Current Issues in Animal Law lecture series. Vermont Law School alumna Laura Fox JD/MELP'13, staff attorney for farm animal protection at The Humane Society of the United States, will discuss "Environmental, Public Health, and Other Societal Harms of Extreme Farmed Animal Confinement."
Fox will elaborate on her work protecting farm animals from the industrialized practices of factory farms, including by reducing extreme confinement practices and challenging their myriad environmental, public health, and societal harms. As Fourth Circuit Judge Wilkinson recently penned, “it is past time to acknowledge the full harms that the unreformed practices of [industrialized] farming are inflicting.” In her talk, Fox will review recent victories and setbacks in farmed animal law, examine the integrally connected interests of humans and animals, and suggest possible ways to advance those mutual interests.
