In this seminar, you will learn the basics of how to choose a path for ownership succession in your business. We will take a close look at four different ways of selling a business: to an outsider, to family members, to managers or to the larger group of employees.
Lynne Silva of The Silva Group will cover the fundamentals of ownership succession, and Matt Cropp of the Vermont Employee Ownership Center will give an overview of the mechanics of the most common ownership transition models.OUR SPEAKERS
Matthew Cropp
Vermont Employee Ownership CenterMatt has been with the organization since 2014, where he has developed deep expertise in employee ownership models. In addition to his leadership role, he is responsible for managing social media, event planning and promotion, coordinating with a national network of employee ownership practitioners and a variety of other activities advancing the VEOC's mission. Matt received his MA in History from UVM in 2011, where he studied economic history and the origins of cooperative finance, and he's involved on a volunteer basis with a number of co-op projects both locally and nationally. He lives in the New North End of Burlington with his partner, their son, and a pair of very friendly rabbits.
Lynne Silva
The Silva GroupLynne Silva is a certified business intermediary and the principal of The Silva Group LLC, a professional mergers and acquisitions/business brokerage firm located in Burlington. For almost 20 years she has advised business owners on planning for and in successfully executing the sales of their companies.
She has lengthy experience working with each type of ownership exit pathway, whether advising on a straightforward sale of a small company to a key employee or managing a complex multi-million dollar transaction with a national acquirer. Her focus is on crafting an exit that is balanced to align with an owner’s values and needs while also positioning the new owners and the company itself for continued success.
