Description
On Sunday, October 19, a new folk series, PM Sundays, will debut in Town Hall Theater’s Anderson Studio, featuring Jenna Nicholls and Jon LaDeau. This October, Nicholls releases her new album, The Commuter, produced by multiple Grammy-award winner Larry Campbell. The music created for The Commuter is a cinematic trip that takes the listener to 1930’s Parisian cafes, New Orleans juke joints, Tennessee hills and the wide-open vistas of Texas and Oklahoma; even the weekly commute from Manhattan to the Hudson Valley home Jenna created with her husband makes an appearance.
Hailing from the small town of Irwin, PA near Pittsburgh, Nicholls ultimately gravitated to the creative hotbed of Manhattan’s Lower East Side to develop her career as a songwriter and performer. Forging lasting friendships with other like-minded artists and musicians, Nicholls previously made three albums: Curled Up Toes in Red Mary Janes, The Blooming Hour, and Radio Parade. The albums revealed a restless muse and a theme that would be a constant for Nicholls: a love of vintage music – anything from classic music films like “Singin’ in the Rain” to Bessie Smith.
P.M. Sundays is a co-production with Town Hall Theater, in partnership with Don Sheldon of Valley Stage Productions. Sheldon’s P.M. Sunday series previously took place in Richmond, featuring both established and emerging artists. Tony Trischka, Mr. Sun, Julian Lage, Molly Tuttle, Darlingside, Rani Arbo and Daisy Mayhem and a number of Canadian and foreign artists such as Northern Resonance, Symbio and Fru Skaggerak were recruited for the series. Don has also curated concerts at the Flynn Space, the UVM Lane Series, Higher Ground, Highland Center for the Arts, and Town Hall Theater.Images
