Vergennes Day a Success – Thanks to Volunteers and Sponsors
Record numbers filled the Vergennes City Park on Saturday, August 24 for Vergennes Day, enjoying great food, local musicians, and vendors & organizations lined up along every inch of the sidewalks. The Addison County Chamber of Commerce organizes this event but, as always, a great deal of the credit for its success goes to a fantastic group of volunteers, sponsors and community organizations.
Northland Job Corps students and faculty, Bob Feuerstein – morning master of ceremonies, Martha DeGraaf – afternoon master of ceremonies and Vergennes Department of Public Works.
Casella Waste Systems, City of Vergennes, Dorchester Lodge 1F.&A.M., Feed Commodities, Jackman Fuels, Kennedy Brothers, The LandMark Group, LC Jazz, Restoration & Performance Motorcars, Small City Market, Vergennes City Band, Vermont Federal Credit Union, and Vermont Gas Systems.
Rob Carter, president of ACCOC, commented “The music was fantastic this weekend. The Hitmen entertained us on Friday evening at the Vergennes Street Dance, with several hundred people seated around on the grass and others dancing under the lights on Park St.”
Vergennes day included music by the Vergennes City Band, Pete Sutherland & Oliver Scanlon and LC Jazz, plus our sound technician Mark Mulqueen on Saturday. Carter observed “Each band has a following that always shows up for their performances, but last weekend a whole new crowd was introduced to a wide variety of music that was enjoyed by young and old alike.”
A special thanks is also extended to the other organizations that help spread Vergennes Day throughout the city:
- Run Vermont and Scott Gaines for the 5K, 10K, 15K and Kid’s Fun Run
- The Vergennes Fire Department with their pancake breakfast and the very popular bubble pit.
- The Vergennes Rotary and their annual Rubber Duckie race on Otter Creek.
- And the Bixby Library and Vergennes Rotary awarding several prizes for their summer reading program Booked for Bikes.
