    • About

The Willowell Foundation is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization established in 2001 and based on 230 acres of farmland, wetland, and forest in Monkton, Vermont, is dedicated to connecting people to the arts, education, the environment and each other through land-based programs. Our longest- running program is the internationally-recognized Walden Project outdoor public high school program, founded by Willowell's Executive Director Matthew Schlein and run in partnership with Vergennes Union High School. In 2012, we founded Wren's Nest Wilderness Preschool as a companion program for 3-5 year-olds. We also serve over 120 youth each year through our popular arts & environment camps, and reach approximately 550 additional youth each year through farm-to-school field trips, artist residencies, Keeping Track wildlife monitoring program, and Volunteers for Peace.
