Henry Sheldon Museum presents The LaValley Store: a Time Capsule in Cornwall, a talk by members of the Cornwall Historical Society who will discuss plans to save and revitalize the building on Tuesday, March 10 at noon. The building was built in 1880 and is located at the historic center of Cornwall. The store was an economic and social center, replacing the Yankee roving peddler. In 1918, Perry LaValley acquired the store and operated it until 1940 when he inexplicably left Cornwall and his daughter closed the store. In 2001, the building was donated to the Town of Cornwall with all of its classic features in place. This talk is presented in conjunction with the exhibit, Town Treasures: the Local History Show which features displays from the fourteen historical societies of Addison County. The exhibit is on view at the Sheldon from March 3-April 17. Participants may bring a brown bag lunch; beverages and dessert provided. Fee: $2. Sheldon Museum, 1 Park Street, Middlebury. For information call 388-2117.
