This 90-minute facilitated dialogue will provide an overview of systemic racism and how it operates at multiple levels in our society and communities with the goal of recognizing the way racism manifests in local spaces. The session will then introduce questions that community businesses should ask themselves to assess where they are at and where they want to be in terms of embodying anti-racism in their services and practices.
This interactive session is intended as a first step in a change process for businesses that want to be intentional about working to transform their culture and to foster an anti-racist environment for customers and clients.
Facilitator
Renee Wells serves as the Director of Education for Equity and Inclusion at Middlebury College. She facilitates workshops for faculty and staff on using inclusive design to reduce institutional barriers and their impact, navigating power and privilege dynamics in living and learning environments, creating spaces for critical conversations, and facilitating difficult dialogues. She also works with administrators to advocate for inclusive policies and practices, provides consulting related to classroom and workplace inclusion, and facilitates small- and large-group dialogues in response to campus climate concerns as part of her work with the Community Bias Response Team and the Restorative Justice Steering Committee.
Please join us to learn how we can begin the conversation on fostering an anti-racist environment in our local businesses and organizations.Tell a Friend
