Road Biking

CNN featured an article on cycling in Vermont--all the scenery is in Addison County and the neighboring town of Brandon. Broadcast January 7, 2014.

Addison County was named one of the best places to ride by Yankee Magazine. The area boasts nine bicycle loops developed by Lake Champlain Bikeways, a 1,300+ mile network of bicycle routes in the Lake Champlain Valley of Vermont, New York, and Québec. In Addison County (Heart of Vermont Bikeways) loops range in difficulty—for example an easy loop with a continuous panorama of fields and mountains along Lake Champlain or a more challenging loop offering two mountain climbs over the Middlebury and Brandon gaps. For a free copy of the Bikeways map, order one here or contact the Chamber office at 802-388-7951. A large PDF version of the map can be found here.

The Autumn 2013 issue of Vermont Life features an article titled, "Savoring the Ride"--all about riding in Addison County. The article includes directions for three scenic loops in Middlebury and Vergennes. Available by subscription only at Vermont Life.

The June 1, 2013 edition of The Boston Globe featured a self-guided bike tour with many stops within Addison County and nearby Brandon.

Mountain Biking

Addison County’s first trail designed and constructed specifically for mountain biking is within the Moosalamoo National Recreation Area, this 9-mile circuit will offers vistas across southern Lake Champlain and the Adirondacks on a trail ascending to an amazing ridgeline, descending through ferny glades and winding through the boulder-strewn Leicester Hollow, back to the Silver Lake Campground. With the assistance of the U.S. Forest Service, this is a one-of-a-kind system and the first on federal land in Vermont.
