Pumpkins in the Park to be Held in Vergennes, VermontBy Sue Hoxie
Vergennes, Vermont – October 8, 2008 – The City of Vergennes and the Vergennes Area Chamber of Commerce, a division of the Addison County Chamber of Commerce, will be sponsoring their second annual “Pumpkins in the Park” on Saturday, October 18. This is an event for people of all ages.
Anyone can bring their carved and/or decorated pumpkins with a candle and registration form to the Vergennes City Park by 6:45 pm. Wearing costumes will definitely add to the fun. First, second and third place ribbons and certificates will be awarded to each of six divisions: Family, which can include children of any age, Grades K-3, Grades 4-6, Grades 7-8, Grades 9-12, and adults.
At 7 pm the pumpkins will be lit causing the park to come alive with a “pumpkin glow!” Then, with ghoulish sounds emerging throughout the park, the pumpkins will be judged by local art teachers and prizes awarded by Vergennes Mayor, Michael Daniels. Participants will be able to bring their creations back home ready for Halloween!
During the pumpkin judging, there will be a costume parade and children of all ages may join in a “Bear Hunt.”
Attendees will be able to purchase mulled cider and cider donuts at the bandstand.
Registration forms must be filled out and brought with your pumpkin. They are available at Vergennes’ merchants and the Addison County Chamber of Commerce.
So get creative and join in the fun on Sunday, October 18, 6:45 pm in Vergennes City Park!
