New Commissioner for State’s Department of Marketing and Tourism to Speak in Middlebury on February 8thBy Sue Hoxie
Middlebury, Vermont – January 28, 2011 – The Addison County Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce that Commissioner Megan Smith, Governor Shumlin’s appointee to head the Vermont Department of Tourism and Marketing, will speak in Middlebury on Tuesday, February 8, 2011. Ms. Smith will be presenting at the Chamber’s monthly membership meeting, which is also open to all community members who are interested in hearing her speak.
The meeting will be held in the Community Room at Ilsley Public Library from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. A light lunch will be available. The cost is $5 for Chamber members and $10 for non-members. During her presentation Ms. Smith will discuss her background and previous experiences and any forthcoming changes to the state’s tourism marketing programs such as funding, tools and target markets. There will be time for questions and answers at the end of her presentation.
Megan Smith has 30 years of business experience, including 15 years in corporate hospitality and owner/operator of two businesses including the Vermont Inn. Prior to being named commissioner, Ms. Smith developed and maintained the Vermont Marble Trail, as Executive Director of Dimensions of Marble, which is a statewide tourism initiative. In that role, Smith worked with all Chambers, Visitor Centers and Historical Societies on the western side of the state.
