New Website Launched for Addison CountyBy Sue Hoxie
Serves as a Countywide Resource for Residents, Tourists, Event Planners
Middlebury, Vermont – February 12, 2009 – The Addison County Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce the launch of its new website, AddisonCounty.com (www.addisoncounty.com), which went live on February 2nd. The new site combines and expands the content and information that was previously on two separate websites, MidVermont.com (for tourists) and AddisonCountyChamber.com (for Chamber business).
AddisonCounty.com contains a wealth of information useful to both tourists and area residents. Tourists can search lodging and dining choices based on style (such as bed & breakfast, hotel & motel, resort or pizza, deli, restaurant) and by amenity (such as non-smoking, pet friendly, handicap accessible). Many of the county’s museums, historical sites, and recreational activities are searchable by interest categories. Residents who need to find a kennel, mechanic, dentist, accountant, or any other business in more than 40 different categories can find them in the Services section of the website.
“We’re very proud of the new website, in terms of its beautiful design and functionality, as well as the information it contains”, said Paul Richey, marketing committee chair, Addison County Chamber of Commerce and Director of Sales & Marketing, Basin Harbor Club. “Our goal was to create an information resource for anyone who lives, works, visits or is thinking of relocating to Addison County. We believe that goal has been accomplished, but we recognize the website will continue to expand as more information is added as time goes on.”
The website was designed by Sensible World (http://sensibleworld.net), a Middlebury, Vermont-based design firm specializing in graphic design, environmental graphics, identity and iconography, visualizations and website design. VickeryHill.com, (www.vickeryhill.com) located in Warren, Vermont, developed a content management system and managed the integration of data from the Chamber’s membership database.
Another feature of the new website includes the ability to search for lodging, dining, things to do and businesses using one of three methods. The previous websites did not have any search capability, so to find a business the user needed to know the company by name or what category in which they were listed. The new site provides three different ways to search for information, including a site-wide keyword search tool powered by Google.
A vastly improved event calendar offers local event planners, through a self-service form, the ability to enter their event’s information and have it posted directly to the website. For users of the calendar, they now have the ability to search events by date, town and by name to find exactly the event they’re looking for. Since the site was launched on February 2nd, nearly 100 events have been added to the calendar.
