Middlebury is an undergraduate college of 2350 students that is enriched by its companion programs. Every summer the main campus in Vermont is transformed into the world-renowned Language Schools where students from the beginning through doctoral levels pursue any of 10 foreign languages in a total immersion environment. The Language Schools are now on the West Coast as well with a new satellite location at Mills College in Oakland Calif.

In the Green Mountains about 10 miles east of the village lies Middlebury's Bread Loaf campus where for six weeks each summer, the Bread Loaf School of English is in session for master’s degree candidates. Designed for teachers and scholars of English literature, the school also has campuses in Oxford, England, Asheville, N.C., and Santa Fe, N.M.

This pastoral mountain setting is also home to the Bread Loaf Writers' Conference every august, the oldest writer’s conference in the nation founded in 1926.

There is also an overseas dimension to Middlebury College. The C.V. Starr-Middlebury Schools Abroad are located in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, China, Egypt, France, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Russia, Spain, and Uruguay, and they enroll over 300 graduate and undergraduate students each semester.

In addition, Middlebury College is affiliated with the Monterey Institute of International Languages in California, a graduate school that awards master’s degrees in international business, language and linguistics, policy studies, and translation and interpretation.

Middlebury College, founded in 1800, is a highly selective liberal arts college offering over 850 different courses in 44 major fields of study. With a 9:1 student-faculty ratio, well over 100 student organizations, 31 varsity teams, and a long tradition of community service, Middlebury undergraduates are focused on campus and on world around them. Middlebury truly is a global liberal arts college for the 21st century.
