• Town of Monkton

Even without an organized town center, Monkton Vermont is quite the close knit community.  Spread out over almost 40 square miles are the many orchards, farms, and families that compose this patchwork of Vermont’s countryside.

They have their own lake (Cedar Lake, sometimes called Monkton Pond), town offices, library, elementary school, fire department, chocolate shop, hiking trails, and dirt roads.  Two signature annual events bookend the summer, the Strawberry Festival and Mud Bog.

The Strawberry Festival and used book sale to support the Russell Memorial Library, happens the last Sunday of June each year.  It’s an event full of strawberry shortcake (with berries harvested from the local berry farm) and new to you reading adventures.

The summer ends with the Monkton Volunteer Fire Department Mud Bog, which happens on the last Saturday of September each year. This is the Fire Department’s biggest fundraiser, and a whole lot of good old-fashioned dirty fun. Mud pits are crafted, and ambitious racers (truck and ATV) take turns plunging through the muck for the fastest time. Winners receive trophies and yearlong bragging rights, not to mention all the free mud!
