In the fall of 2006, newspapers around the United States began to publicize an unnerving phenomenon eventually named Colony Collapse Disorder. Honeybees were mysteriously disappearing from beehives all around the nation. Honey production was down 30%. Pollination is the thread that unites flora and fauna, and the bees remind us of the importance of preserving the delicate balance of nature and of using it as a model for our own society. Watching Queen of the Sun will help you become inspired, empowered and educated about the honeybee crisis. With this movie, you will be challenged to reconnect with your backyard, nature and our planet. Taking us on a journey through the catastrophic disappearance of bees and the mysterious world of the beehive, this engaging and ultimately uplifting film weaves an unusual and dramatic story of the heartfelt struggles of beekeepers, scientists and philosophers from around the world including Michael Pollan, Gunther Hauk, and Vancana Shiva. Together they reveal both the problems and the solutions in renewing a culture in balance with nature. Alternative and inspiring beekeepers from the US to Italy share their unique philosophical and spiritual insights into their bees.
82 minutes long, the film showing will be followed by an optional discussion led by Jan Louise Ball, longtime Addison County beekeeper.Tell a Friend
